Next Steps – Make Do & Create

We are really pleased to work with the Next Steps charity, who run regular craft activities for us at Farndale Village Hall.

Our tutor Helen, works really hard to run these sessions, and shows us a range of different types of crafts.

We usually make an item of craft that we can take home and feel proud of ourselves for making!  We first began these craft sessions in June 2019, and have been meeting up generally each fortnight (apart from when the Hall has been closed due to coronavirus).

We have tried crafts such as felt making, decoupage, paper folding, making pin boards, Christmas wreaths, and macrame amongst others!

We have also started an ongoing project, making and decorating bags for patients at St Leonard Hospice in York and St Catherines in Scarborough.  This is part of a scheme called ‘Making for Charity’ that works with crafting groups like ours across the country.

Patients at the hospices/care homes use the bags we make to carry medical syringes, plus small pouches for rings, and personal effects bags for passing personal items to relatives.

Sessions will be coming soon.

Generally the sessions are on a fortnightly basis on Thursdays from 1.00pm to 3.00pm.  Helen provides all the materials required, tea and homemade cakes, and just asks for a suggested donation of £5.00 to cover costs.

If you’d like more information please contact

Awaiting dates from Next Steps – we hope that the sessions can be re-started in 2021.
