Craft Club

Craft club meets fortnightly, on a Thursday afternoon from 1.00pm until 3.00pm.

At the sessions, the club works on joint projects, or members can work on their own craft items, whether that is knitting, crocheting, felting, rag-rug making, or something different.

Between July 2019 and Jun 2021, the group had been run by Helen from the Next Steps charity in Malton, as part of the charity’s outreach work.  The group tried crafts such as felt making, decoupage, paper folding, making pin boards, Christmas wreaths, and macrame amongst others!

From the summer of 2021, after Next Steps’ involvement was completed, the craft group members decided that they had enjoyed meeting up together and learning all sorts of craft projects, and they would continue with the group.  The group members decide on projects to take part in.

We were really pleased to join in a project decorating bags and items that were donated to St Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough.

We had a stall at the Farndale Christmas Fairs in both 2021 and 2022 and sold lots of the Christmas crafts we had been making, resulting in us donating a total of £260 towards two children’s charities.  The 2023 Christmas Fayre was cancelled due to bad weather, but we managed to sell items we had made during December at the hall, and made £119.05 for Ryedale Special Families.  We also had stalls with our daffodil and Easter crafts at the Spring Teas & Book Sales at the Hall, and helped raise over £550 for Marie Curie in 2022, and almost £460 for MacMillan in 2023.  Just from our craft and plant stalls in 2024 we raised £107 that we gave to Children in Distress at Kirkbymoorside along with other monies from the tombola.

For the Farndale Jubilee Celebration, we showcased some of our crafts, made especially for the event, all in red/white/blue!

The group had a lovely trip out in June 23 to see the rag rug exhibition at Ryedale Folk Museum then tea & scones/lunch at The Forge in Hutton-le-Hole, and a wander round the craft shops there.  We also went to Murton Fabrics for some craft supplies and had a nice tea at Dean’s Garden Centre afterward.  Also a trip to Kirkbymoorside to see the Church Woolcrafters knitting exhibition which was fabulous!

If you’d like to come along to the craft sessions or want more information please contact Gill – twosticx@hotmail.co.uk.

If you’ve not been before but would like to come, please get in touch so we know for numbers.  Of course …  there is always tea and cake too!!

Where people want to, we work on group projects.   We’re now working on making fidget blankets/muffs for St Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough; craft items to enter into this year’s Farndale Show; and open to new ideas for projects too.
