Monthly domino drives will start up again through the winter months – starting Tuesday 12th October. We start at 7.00pm in the Hall, with a full card of dominoes. There’s a cup of tea & biscuits half way through the evening, plus a raffle at the end. It’s a fun evening and good chance to meet and chat to neighbours and friends.
On Sunday 12th September, the Farndale and Friends Walking Group joined others taking part in the annual Church Pilgrimage, walking from Farndale over to Bransdale Church. After the Church service, the group had a cup of tea and sampled some very tasty cakes. Apart from a bit of a misty and quite wet half-hour on the way down from the moor, it was a nice sunny afternoon.
For further info on the next walks, contact Jo Loggie -email@example.com

The Jumble/Table Top/Book sale held at the Hall on Saturday 21st August was really well supported – and raised an amazing £473.65. Proceeds go to support the St Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough – a very worthy cause! Thank you to everyone involved in the running of the sale, and for the lovely cakes and biscuits that were baked for the teas!
The Village Hall will be hosting a table top/book/jumble sale on Saturday 21st August – from 2.00pm-4.00pm. Refreshments (tea & cake) will be available. Proceeds for the sale will go to benefit St Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough. Come along if you can and support this very worthy cause!
A walking group has been set up to bring people together for a local walk and then chance for a cup of tea and chat afterward. The walk organiser Jo Loggie set the first walk for 2.00pm on Saturday 17th July round the Daffy Walk. 12 people turned out for the afternoon and it ended up being a really hot summer’s day, but with a nice breeze thankfully!
The group decided, over a cuppa, that the next walk will be held on Saturday 14th August, at the earlier time of 11.00am. The walk will be along the railway line from the top of Blakey Bank, and then down off the moor at Esklets Crossing and back down to Church Houses by the road. Lifts will be given for people to the top of the Bank at the beginning so there isn’t the steep hill to start! All welcome!
For more info etc, please contact Jo Loggie.
As of Monday 17th May 2021, we have re-opened the Village Hall and hope to see our user groups and hirers return once more. It has been a long few months since we closed the doors, and we are pleased to be able to offer our community the use of our hall again.
Naturally, some people may feel uneasy about getting together after such a long period of lockdown, and the committee has done work to ensure it is a Covid-safe space. We have hand sanitisers in the entrance hall and by the meeting room door, a special cleaning box for users of the hall, and limits to numbers inside. We have available a full risk assessment, and ask all users to complete their own hire risk assessment and additional Covid hire conditions. All users are asked to keep contact details for people attending their activities for track and trace and we have an NHS QR poster in the entrance hall for people to use.
From 31st December 2020, the Village Hall is now temporarily closed. North Yorkshire had been moved to Tier Three under the Government’s Covid restrictions, and subsequently we are now in a further national lockdown. Therefore all the activities we have recently been running in the Village Hall are not now possible and we are closed until further notice.
We hope that things will improve soon and that we will be able to safely re-open the Village Hall and our activities and events.
Since the month-long lockdown has ended, the Village Hall has re-opened from 3rd December.
We are pleased to re-start with yoga classes, and the open library sessions. As many of the other activities are not yet allowed to take place due to restrictions, and user groups are not able to come back or don’t feel ready to, then the Hall isn’t being used as much as it has been previously.
Farndale Entertainment Committee are organising a Winter Wonderland event in place of the usual Christmas Party – this will be for all the community, not just the children, and will be run with Covid-secure planning.
As mentioned before, I’m sure in Farndale we all as neighbours and friends will help one another if people are shielding or not well or unable to get out or just need a chat – but if anyone does need some help during the next month or so, please do get in touch and we’ll try our best to help.
